Although the surroundings may be grand, the ambience is casual and convivial. Our aim at North Bundaleer is to provide an environment in which to unwind and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
‘Part of the philosophy behind this place is to slow down and enjoy the fresh air, good company and good food and wine, away from the stresses of modern living, but with creature comforts and a lot of luxury. It is a place where people can come to be discretely spoiled’.
Meet up for pre-dinner drinks in the Drawing Room before moving to the long Irish Georgian dining table in the Dining Room for a four-course dinner and Clare Valley wines with your hosts. A night-cap in the Library or under the amazing southern stars on our verandas marks the end of a perfect day.
Take a guided tour (or self drive following our recommendations): meander through some picturesque Clare Valley vineyards and pick the brains of a local winemaker; step into the world of the first immigrant miners at Burra, living and working, and sometimes being incarcerated, under the harsh Australian sun; explore gorges, remnants of lives destroyed by drought, and aboriginal caves decorated with primitive drawings.
For those who prefer to spend their day relaxing in their surroundings, we can whisk you to the top of our hill for lunch or a ‘sun downer’ when a change of scene is required.
There are verandas on all sides of the house, so there is always a sunny or shady spot in which to sit and enjoy the view of the surrounding countryside and our extensive gardens, including the 600-strong rose garden. Wander around to see our resident beef cattle, kangaroos, galahs and kookaburras, chooks, woolshed and olive grove. Archie and Tilly (our resident Jack Russell Terriers) will do the guiding, in exchange for some stick-throwing.
